The First National Bank of Albany, the culmination of three banks, was first organized in 1883. It was a country bank that came into being because of necessity and continued to develop as this section of the frontier gradually emerged from its fight for existence with the Indians. Banking in the late 1800's and early 1900's in this part of Texas was mostly involved with the land: farming, cattle ranching, horse and mule trading. Directors of that day managed to persevere through money panics, droughts, wars, market crashes, tight money, and high interest rates. Thus a strong institution gradually emerged.

The seeds sowed by those first bankers have flourished through the years as the community and the bank expanded to provide services for oil and other industries as well as innovative products and services for all consumers. In 1989 First National acquired banks in Gordon and Strawn and in 1990 acquired Team Bank, Breckenridge. The name of the bank was changed to FIRST NATIONAL BANK ALBANY/BRECKENRIDGE, a holding company of four banks that operate ostensibly as independent community banks serving their designated assessment areas.
